I'm pleased to announce a new addition to our Network of Craftsmen: Saul Gomez of Blue Ridge Custom Painting, LLC. We've offered interior painting services in Asheville since we opened our doors, but Saul brings our painting service to a whole new level. He heads an experienced team who can paint the whole exterior of your home. He also does interior painting and deck staining. Another reason I'm excited to introduce Saul to our team is that he does wallpaper removal and popcorn ceiling removal. This is a much-needed service in the many vintage homes in Asheville, so if you have an outdated ceiling finish that you're ready to get rid of, give us a call and we'll be glad to connect you with Saul. Take a look at some of the work he's done recently. He's a meticulous painter who obviously takes great pride in doing a good job. Getting your home repainted from time to time is an important part of maintenance. It's not just for looks... it protects the finishes and the underlying structure.
So don't put off your home maintenance... if your house needs a fresh coat of paint, give us a call and we'll be glad to connect you with the right team for the job. Benjamin Moore is my favorite brand of paint. I use their "Aura" line of paint whenever possible, because it usually covers in just one coat. They just announced their 2018 color of the year, and wow! What a color! It looks like they're moving on from the white-and-gray trend. This is called "Caliente" and it's an incredible scarlet hue. A color like this can really make a room, but from the painter's perspective, crimson paint offers a few challenges. With that in mind, here are a few Tips for Painting with Red:
Painting with bold hues like Caliente can be a challenge. If you're nervous about doing it yourself, why not hire a professional interior painter like me? I'm good at it!
One of the best parts of my job is helping home buyers settle into their new homes. It's the perfect time for interior painting, hanging art just the way you want it, and generally getting everything ship-shape. One of my recent customers moved into a very nice apartment, but the walls were all white and very bland. My first job was to personalize the rooms with a few accent walls. (Accent walls are perfect for apartment owners, because it's easy to have them painted over when you move out.) My customer really chose the colors well. I'm surprised that this blue coordinates so well with the taupe trim. Perhaps it's because the blue already has a lot of gray in it. Just having a little color in the space gave it personality. But it really came together when I hung the pictures... ...lots and lots of pictures! She had a lot of beautiful paintings, not to mention the prints and sculptures, and we filled the walls with them. The great thing about working in the Asheville area is that so many of my customers love art, and I love to hang it for them. I've been developing a few "tricks of trade" lately that make it easy to hang two pictures side by side at the same level... I can even center them on one another if they're different sizes. Remember the boring white bedroom that I started with? Look at what a difference a little paint (and a lot of good taste) can make. If you need someone to paint your walls or help you hang your art, give me a call. I really enjoy helping new homeowners make a "house" into a "home."
"Cheap" paint is really expensive. The reason is simple: cheap paint doesn't cover as well, so you have to put down multiple coats. That means it takes multiple cans of cheap paint to do the same job as one can of higher quality paint... not to mention more work for the painter. (By the way, primer is a different story. Unlike wall paint, it's supposed to go on thin, and good primer is often translucent.) Brand matters, too. I once bought a rather expensive paint which turned out to be awful. I had to put on two full coats... even though I was just painting white over white! (The old white was slightly yellower and kept showing through.) It turned out well in the end... but only after a lot of patience. So which paint should you buy? My two favorite brands are: 1) Benjamin Moore's Regal series 2) Sherwin Williams's Infinity series (available at Lowe's Home Improvement stores) #1 adheres so well that it's even hard to peel it off the metal ferrule of my brush! Wow! Once you choose the right paint color... and the right paint... it's time to choose the right house painter for the job. If you live in Asheville, give us a call. We love this stuff!
Egads! It's the middle of February, but it's already porch weather here in Asheville. Of course, here in the mountains, the weather might be like this in the morning: and like this by evening: ...or vice versa... but I'm not complaining! I just enjoy the good weather while it's here. And speaking of enjoying the good weather, is your porch in good shape and ready for Spring? Outdoor spaces are an important part of your home value, so give me a call if you need someone to replace your rotten porch floorboards: ....or repair your deck flooring. We do that, too: Another common problem is paint peeling on railings. We can repaint that for you! Check it out... it makes a big difference: If your railings are in worse shape, we can do a total replacement. Here's one I did with Trex synthetic railings: We can also beef up existing railings: Or add a gate to keep in pets and kids: Speaking of pets and kids, we can add lattice to protect your screened-in porch from little claws and fingers... or install a whole new set of screens: So if you're ready to enjoy your porch again, give us a call. We'll get it in good shape for the sunny Spring weather.
